Amber Sports 160-Pound Threaded Weight Set

Good set of weights4

This is a nice sturdy set of weights with good threading. Seems sort of cheesy to say as a set of weights had better be sturdy but you can tell there is some build quality with these. The paint is heavy looks to scratch instead of chip off which is good. The collar threads are nice and deep and the collars themselves are chunks of metal - they will never break and they fit nicely on the bars. You end up with 140lbs worth of plates with the rest of the weight taken up by the bars. Sometimes the collars can get a little loose on the freeweights when doing hammer curls but you're going to see that on any collar based set.

All in all this is a nice base set. 160lbs for ~$100 you can't really go wrong.More detail ...

Gold's Gym WMGG224 Multi-Position Utility Bench

Gold's Gym exercise bench4

So far I am pleased with the bench. I am a small woman (5'3" 116 lbs) and the bench is the right size for me. I would not recommend it for a much larger person as it doesn't seem sturdy enough for too much weight. For the price I would say it is a good buy.More detail ...

Bowflex SelectTech Adjustable Bench Series 3.1

Well-constructed and great value5

This is a very nice bench by any standards and as other reviews mention it was very easy to put together. The instructions are well-written the diagrams clear and the whole thing is well-engineered and heavy duty construction. The manual says it can hold a 300lb. person plus 300lbs. or weight and I don't doubt that at all. It is also very easy to adjust and doesn't have a lot of little parts. It took me about 50 minutes to assemble it and I went very slowly.

It is true that there are only four positions you can use on this bench but for most people that is plenty. Also it is a perfect product to use with a dumbbell workout. If you go this route I recommend either Pair of Personal PowerBlock Adjustable Dumbbells - 5-45 Pounds in 5 Pound Increments or PowerBlock SportBlock Dumbbell Set. These adjustable dumbbells are rugged less expensive than other brands and the safest that I know of.

Some other details about the bench... the material is a medium thick vinyl and mine came with a 1 inch tear. I did not consult customer support yet but I will update this review to reflect my experience of them when I do. I think a better material and padding would improve the product overall but at this price point I think it's plenty rugged.

If you get this bench you can eventually get a power rack that can be used with your bench and as a squat/deadlift rack. One that I like is Phys-x Half Rack 10418 but you there are others depending upon your needs.

If you are new (or old) to this type of training I recommend Build Muscle Lose Fat Look Great: Everything You Need to Know to Transform Your Body and Starting Strength. These are probably the ONLY two books most people will ever need on strength training building mass etc. They are BOTH dense with great information systematically laid out. I have other suggestions on my listmania lists check my profile if you are interested. I also reviewed most of the adjustable dumbells on available on here.More detail ...

US Weight 55 lb. Duracast Weight Set

Good value for a great barbell set4

The bar is lightweight and the set has a nice feel to it when loaded. It is perfect for home use with video workouts such as Jari Love or Cathe Friedrich. I would supplement this set with some 2.5 lb weights. The 10 lbs plates are a tad bulky but at this price - who cares?More detail ...

Best Fitness BFFID10 FID Bench

Great Bench! 5

This is a super bench for the price. It has 4 different height adjustable positions and each leg can be either folded or reclined to a different angle to further incline or decline this bench. Also both legs can be folded to make a great floor bench for floor presses as well or to simply be tucked away until your next workout. This is a great product that came already put together right out of the box. If all of best fitness's products are of this quality then they've got a new full time customer.:)More detail ...

Cap Barbell Fitness FID Bench

A Great Workout Bench4

This is a surprisingly sturdy lightweight bench to use for dumbbell exercises. Not only is it affordable but it is easier to put together than the average treadmill. The manual's instructions for putting the bench together are clear and easy to follow and it offers good advice on how to get started coming up with an exercise routine. The bench's backrest is adjustable (a hard-to-find but important feature) so you can do the full range of dumbbell exercises.

Customers should know before buying that the bench is designed to support a maximum user weight of 250 lbs with a combined dumbbell weight of 100 lbs. So although you cannot use this bench for lifting massive weights it is ideal for people who are just starting out or who are focusing on fitness instead of extreme bodybuilding.More detail ...

US Weight F0115 115-Pound Duracast Weight Set With Dumbbells

Very Durable!5

I have been using these for over a year and they seem very durable. However take note that I do take care of them (i.e. I do not drop them onto the ground from high above; instead I gently lower my hands to the ground before dropping them no more than 4-5 inches off the ground on in-door carpet). They do seem like they can be dropped on concrete just fine too though.

These seem to be constructed well on the outside but the durability may vary from one set to another because the weights have some kind of powder in them and a (in my case well-constructed) plug keeps the powder in.

The clips work well. There are 6 total. Two of the clips are (barely) bigger (but bigger nonetheless) and very strong. These two clips do not slip at all handling the heaviest of weights on this weight set. I use these two clips on one dumbell handle. The other 4 clips are not as strong but works about as well as the two larger ones when combined. I use 2 of these clips on each side (4 total) of the other dumbbell handle. More detail ...

CAP Barbell Xodus Basic Mid-Width Adjustable Exercise Weight Bench

Great bench5

I got this about a week ago. Assembly was pretty easy took less than an hour. The only problem I had was that one of the pins that hold the uprights in place had some stripped threads. I called the customer service number and they sent me two replacements which I received within a week.

Bench press: The bench has four positions: flat decline and two incline. The uprights are adjustable to four different heights. The bottom part of the seat is also adjustable to flat or two different incline positions. While doing incline bench presses at the higher of the two incline positions it's nice to put the lower part of the seat up at it's highest incline position as it holds you in place so you don't slide downwards while doing your reps. There are also a pair of extra barbell holders located lower down on the uprights; if you can't finish a rep you can dump the bar in there. The bar will come to rest about an inch above your chin so you don't have to lift it very far to get it in there. That's a really nice safety feature. Overall it's very comfortable and works great for any sort of bench press incline decline or flat. There's nothing that gets in the way the uprights are adjustable to get the bar at the right height and the bench has a really solid feel to it. I use a 6' standard bar which works fine. Of course a 7' bar would work as well.

Squat rack: You can use this bench for a squat rack. The lower bar that holds the uprights together is curved so you can stand between them. You just flip the bench forward (It stays in the straight up position). Then you raise the uprights as high as they go and turn them around backwards so they're facing the correct direction. They're tubular so you just take the pins out and turn them around. Ideally the uprights could go up a little higher as you have to squat down somewhat in order to get under the bar. But you're doing squats anyway so what's the point in complaining that you have to do an extra 1/5th of a rep. Besides it's infinitely better than picking the weight up off the floor.

Leg attachment: This is removable which is nice because it's not in the way when you're not using it. It has two different heights I found the lower one best for leg curls and the upper one better for leg extensions. If you try using the leg curl attachment on the upper height the padded bar wants to roll up your legs as you do the exercise. On the lower position there's no problem. The padding on the bars is very thick and comfortable. For leg extensions the bar goes right across the front of your ankles and stays there throughout the exercise. Same with the leg curls - once I got it at the right height it stays in the same place on your legs throughout the exercise with no rolling back and forth. The bar that holds the barbell plates is 1" in diameter and there's an adapter sleeve included for Olympic plates (2" diameter).

Preacher curl bench: This goes in the same place as the leg attachment. I originally thought there was a problem with the barbell holder which sticks out from the front of this as it wouldn't allow me to get a full extension at the bottom of the movement. But I found that if you move forward on the seat so that your legs are under the preacher bench and the middle of your biceps are about even with the top of the bench it works just fine. There's no interference from the barbell holder at all. Even though that barbell holder is only a few inches wide the bar balances just fine on it and it's a handy feature.

Overall I can't find anything to complain about with this bench. After a little experimenting around to find the correct position to be in when using the preacher curl bench and which height the leg attachment needs to be at for the leg curl to work correctly everything works fine. The bench is nice and solid and the padding on the seat is thick and firm. The replacement part I needed was received quickly at no charge and with no questions asked. I'm really happy with this purchase.

Best Fitness BFPR10 Multi Press Rack

Very good compact rack4

Been using for a couple of months and am quite happy with the product. Assembly was quick & fast. Noticed there were two stable positions (vertical bars slightly closer at the top or slightly wider at the bottom).

Best features:

* The safety bars (both squats and bench presses) are extremely useful when you don't have a spotter.

* Easily do both squats & bench presses on the same side by adjusting height.

* Compact footprint. You still need an 7 ft Olympic sized bar. A 6 ft bar will do if the separation between the joints is standard (I think it's 52.5" or so).

* Price! Couldn't find too many in this range that offers the safety bars as well.

Cons:

* The horizontal bar at the bottom is mounted a little high so it can interfere with some benches. I have a folding bench and need to swap the front-back directions to get it to fit. Standard workout benches probably won't have this issue. So buy this first and then the bench.

* Doesn't tell you how much weight you can safely use. I have a 300lb set but am not using all of it right now.

Overall very happy with the product and would highly recommend to someone who is in need of a compact footprint for doing squats (as well as bench presses).
